16. Enthusiasm (Enthusiasm)

Thunder rises from the earth — moving with the current brings joy. Prepare well and flow with the moment for effort that pays off doubly, but don't let comfort turn into carelessness.

Judgment Text (Original): 利建侯行师
Plain-Language Translation: Favorable for establishing rulers and mobilizing an army.
Tuan Commentary (Original): 豫,刚应而志行,顺以动,豫。豫,顺以动,故天地如之,而况建侯行师乎?天地以顺动,故日月不过,而四时不忒;圣人以顺动,则刑罚清而民服。豫之时义大矣哉!
Plain-Language Translation: Yu — the firm line gains response and its intent moves forward, acting in accord with what is fitting, and this brings joyful ease. Since Yu acts in accord with what is fitting, heaven and earth themselves do the same — how much more so, then, establishing rulers and mobilizing armies? Because heaven and earth move in accord with what is fitting, sun and moon never err, and the four seasons never fail; because the sage acts in accord with what is fitting, punishments stay light and the people submit willingly. Great indeed is the meaning of Yu's timeliness!
Image Commentary (Original): 雷出地奋,豫。先王以作乐崇德,殷荐之上帝,以配祖考
Plain-Language Translation: Thunder bursts forth from the earth, picturing joyful vigor; the ancient kings composed music to honor virtue and made grand offerings to the divine and their ancestors.
