32. Duration (Perseverance)

Thunder and wind work together, steady and unchanging. Lasting success comes from consistency — both love and career need patient, long-term care, not a wavering heart.

Judgment Text (Original): 亨,无咎,利贞,利有攸往
Plain-Language Translation: Prevailing, without blame, steadfastness favorable, and favorable to move forward.
Tuan Commentary (Original):
Plain-Language Translation: Heng means lasting long. The firm sits above and the yielding below, thunder and wind assisting each other, gentle compliance paired with movement, the firm and yielding responding to one another — this is constancy. Heng prevails without blame, and steadfastness is favorable, because it holds fast to its way over the long term, just as heaven and earth's own course goes on ceaselessly. It favors moving forward, since an ending gives way to a new beginning. Sun and moon follow the course of heaven and so shine for ages; the four seasons change and complete their cycle for ages; the sage holds fast to their way for ages, and thereby transforms and completes the world. Observe what endures, and the true nature of heaven, earth, and all things can be seen!
Image Commentary (Original): 雷风,恒;君子以立不易方
Plain-Language Translation: Thunder and wind accompany each other, picturing lasting constancy; the noble person holds firm to their position and does not shift direction lightly.

Modern Application Guide

Career: A project or career path you've stuck with is steadily paying off — don't abandon it halfway.

Relationships: A long-term relationship needs ongoing investment — showing up inconsistently won't serve it well.

Wealth: A long-term, steady financial plan pays off better than short-term speculation.

Health: An exercise or eating habit you've kept up is building real results — keep going.
