43. Breakthrough (Resoluteness) (Breakthrough)

Firmness overcomes softness — the moment calls for a clean decision. Hidden risks need to be cleared away resolutely; there's some danger, but acting with integrity and principle brings a good outcome.

Judgment Text (Original): 扬于王庭,孚号,有厉,告自邑,不利即戎,利有攸往
Plain-Language Translation: Proclaim it openly at the royal court, rallying others with sincerity even though danger remains; give warning starting from one's own domain rather than resorting to force at once — favorable to move forward.
Tuan Commentary (Original): 夬,决也,刚决柔也。健而说,决而和,扬于王庭,柔乘五刚也。孚号有厉,其危乃光也。告自邑,不利即戎,所尚乃穷也。利有攸往,刚长乃终也
Plain-Language Translation: Guai means resolute decision — five firm lines removing a single yielding one. Firm and yet joyful, decisive and yet harmonious; proclaiming it openly at the royal court, since the single yielding line rides atop five firm ones and must be removed. Rallying others with sincerity even amid danger — it is precisely this danger that makes the right path shine forth. Giving warning starting from one's own domain rather than resorting to force at once, since relying solely on force in the end leads nowhere. It favors moving forward, since the growth of the firm lines will finally reach completion.
Image Commentary (Original): 泽上于天,夬;君子以施禄及下,居德则忌
Plain-Language Translation: The lake's water rises to the sky, picturing a decisive breakthrough; the noble person extends benefit to those below, wary of flaunting their own virtue.
